Groundhog Day

Today is Groundhog Day and it appears that Punxsautawny Phil has determined we will be having 6 more weeks of winter. This has of course upset many, mostly those folks that hate the whole winter thing. I don't mind it at all. I love winter and all the things that come. Let it snow. I love to have a snowman village in my yard.

Today is the day for the President's State of the Union address. I watched it as I would a train wreck. Curiously afraid wanting to close my eyes but not being able to for fear a may miss something. I am embarresed for him and our nation. I am embarssed because I am afraid of what he may say. You know, kind of like that drunk relative showing up to your wedding, slopping drinks over the guests and running their mouth. Never knowing what may come out worrying that it may offend and disturb the people around you. That's how I feel every time he makes a big speech discussing the nation and its goals. I'm afraid to listen but I have to, I don't want to miss the potential train wreck.

By the way if you are a supporter of the President you may want to skip this entry. I'm not too fond of the guy nor is my husband. We reluctently accept him just like that drunk relative.

The real purpose of this entry is to record my husband's very funny comments. We began to watch the address with wonder. What would he say? Has he finally gotten better at controlling his Freudian slips?

Comment #1: Husband walks into room and says "Oh. Is he talking about the Social Security crisis he's going to create?"

Comment #2: "Is he going to repeat this speech over and over until he gets it right? Like in the movie Groundhog Day?"

Funny quote from somewhere:
It is an ironic juxtaposition that: One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a small creature of little intelligence and limited capacities for prognostication............The other involves a groundhog.

So as you can see this is a very fitting day all around.
