Each April the lilac blooms catch me unprepared for their presence. Lilacs are hardly visually noticeable rather their fragrance is what tells me they are here. Each year I think “Now?! So soon?! It can’t be lilac season this early” yet it is and has always been. I have been the one to be so set in my delayed expectations that these gentle shrubs are always a delightful surprise.
To be honest I have been a rather lazy gardener for at least three years probably more like five years. Once a meticulous gardener I would regularly weed the beds keeping a vigilant eye on the plants. As time and life have their way of progressing so do the hours of my days gone to other pursuits.
Or maybe I just have become more relaxed and accepting of the way the garden comes together without my presence.
